We had a new flight service, for 2025, featuring 2 beautiful Beaver bush planes. Each can carry 5 anglers, plus gear and fish, but it was certainly cramped. Fortunately, we are all CLOSE friends. Grin!

Since this new service was just that, new, they were somewhat unfamiliar with the rivers we normally fish, so we were limited to only two rivers. The Akwe and the Italio. Both rivers have an amazing run of coho salmon, and we started on the Italio. The Italio was a bit crowded, however, virtually all of the anglers fish the upper river, leaving the lower river untouched the entire week. Since we know this part of the river, rather well, it didn't take long to find the silvers, and start catching them. Heavy rain raised the river on several days, but the fish-catching was not a problem.

Will Steiger and I got started right away, catching silvers!
It didn't take but a few hours, and our gang of 10 anglers were headed to meet the Beaver with our limit of 40 silvers.
Once again, the 60 deg. jig hook, Lee's Coho Fly was the answer, fished on a Rio Outbound Short, floating line. Solid hookups, few dropped fish, and virtually 0 snagged fish!
With heavy rain, the rivers were really flooded, so the salmon were not slowed in their quest for the spawning grounds. This area near the mouth, can be magical, with normal tides and rainfall...but not on this day!
We were not far behind wolves that were patrolling the beach! Fresh tracks, for sure.
My partner, Will Steiger, hooked and landed the largest coho of the trip (and he keeps reminding me too! Grin!). This 13.1 lb. silver was caught on the Akwe River, and one of the largest our group has taken, in a number of years!
Congratulations, Will!
This beautiful Coho came to a top water bug:
The Pink Polliwog Gurgler!
Our flights, to and from the rivers, provided us with spectacular views, with jagged snow capped mountains, as well as moose and grizzly bears, along the way!
...another beautiful Italio male coho!
Finally, the rain stopped and the clouds parted, giving us an incredible sunset from our cabin!
Many thanks to Jeff Slaboden for organizing this trip, and working hard to make it a reality for us all!
God's creation cannot be adequately described!
